Mahasiswa UT, Materi Report Text (Pengertian, Tujuan dan Strukturnya) dan Contohnya – Bahasa Inggris adalah bahasa asing yang paling banyak di gunakan saat ini. Untuk dapat menguasainya kita harus banyak belajar dan berlatih.
Berbeda dengan bahasa Indonesia, terdapat banyak jenis-jenis teks yang digunakan untuk berbagai tujuan. Jenis teks tersebut biasa di bedakan berdasarkan 2 hal:
- Tujuan
- Struktur atau aturannya.
Dalam kesempatan kali ini kita akan membahas tentang materi Report Text mulai dari pengertiannya, tujuan penggunaanya serta bagaimana struktur dan pengunaan bahasanya.
Definisi Report Text
Report text adalah suatu wacana (text) yang berisi penjelasan terhadap suatu topik dengan tujuan untuk menginformasikan yang biasanya hal-hal seputar ilmu pengetahuan umum.
Tujuan Report Text
Tujuan komunikatif dari report text adalah untuk menginformasikan pembaca tentang sesuatu hal yang biasanya bersifat ilmu pengetahuan umum.

Struktur Report Text
Adapun struktur / bentuk report text dapat di jelaskan kedalam dua kategori, yaitu struktur text dan struktur atau penggunaan bahasanya.
Generic Struktur
Berdasarkan strukturnya, report text terbagai kedalam dua bagian, yaitu:
General Classification
Bagian ini berisi tentang informasi-informasi umum yang berdasarkan pada hasil pengamatan yang telah dilakukan sebelumnya baik tentang fenomena alam, hewan, tumbuhan, dan lain-lain.
Berbeda dengan descriptive text, report text memaparkan informasi-informasi yang umum.
Description
Bagian description pada report text memiliki fungsi yang sama pada descriptive text, yaitu mendeskripsikan lebih jauh atau detail hasil-hasil dari penelitian tersebut secara lebih terperinci.

Mangoes are one of the most popular fruits in the world. Mangoes are tropical fruits. They are grown in the tropical regions throughout the world.
Description
Mango tree is an evergreen that grows about more than 5 meters. Mango tree have many branch and the color are brown. That leaves are long and slender, the flowers are pink. The taste of mango are sweet and sometimes it is little sour. Mangoes are delicious food which is rich of vitamin A and C. Mangoes have many shapes sometime it is oval, round or like kidney. It is base from the variety. Mangoes skins are smooth. Usually mangoes colors are green or yellow. Mangoes have a big hard inner pit. Mangoes pulps are juicy and have yellow color. Mangoes are eaten fresh or we can make it as many variety of food such as preserve, juice or you may add in a cake.
Mangoes are cultivates about 4000 years ago in and the Indonesian archipelago. But, now we can find Mangoes in the many tropical country in this world it is because in the end of 1700’s and 1800’s European explores brought mangoes from the other tropical country.
Struktur Bahasa
Sedangkan ciri kebahasaan atau aturan penggunaan kalimat dalam report text adalah
- Menggunakan simple present tense.
- Menggunakan general nouns. (E.g. Snakes in Sumatra island, etc.)
- Menggunakan istilah teknis, misalnya water contains oxygen and hydrogen, dsb.
- Menggunakan relating verbs untuk menjelaskan ciri, misalnya reptiles are scaly animals.
- Menggunakan action verb. Kata kerja yang tergolong action verb antara lain yang menyatakan activity (aktivitas), process (proses), dan momentary action (aksi berdurasi pendek). Action verb tentunya memiliki bentuk progressive atau continuous. Beberapa contoh action verb adalah sebagai berikut:

Polar Bears
General classification
Polar bear is very large and strong animals. This animal can be found at the North Pole which is the coldest regions on earth. While at the South Pole there is no even a polar bear.
Description
If in standing position, polar bear is very high. Its height can reach 3 meters and its weighs is approximately 450 pounds. They can use their front legs as hands and their back feet as they foot to walk. Polar bears have very thick fur to protect themselves from the cold of ice in the North Pole. The white color of their fur helps them camouflaged with snow. Although polar bears are very large and heavy, they are good swimmers. They can swim as far as 120 km away from the mainland.
The polar bear is the second highest predators in the North Pole after killer whales. They like to eat fish, seals, and penguins. Polar bear nest in caves which are in the Ice. Unlike other types of bears, polar bears do hibernate. Hibernation is a state in which they are asleep all winter.
However, the current population of polar bears in their natural is decline. Many polar bears are hunted by poachers for its fur. Therefore, the Government of Canada, USA, and Russia banned the hunting of polar bears
